After the latest sunset I've ever seen (9:55pm) and a good night's sleep. I was ready for my leisurely day in Skagway. We had all day to wander around the fairly tiny town, then I had to catch a train at 4:30pm. We found a primo parking space for the boat.


My mom wandered back to the boat because she wanted no part of a cliff-hugging train ride. It was right up my alley, though. The White Pass Scenic Railway was non-stop breathtaking scenery. Although it was difficult to get good photos from a moving train, we were allowed to be on the platforms at the ends of the cars, so I got some shots without glass reflections.


In the above photo, those white spots at center are the cruise ships.









Leaving Skagway wasn't the end of the scenery, though. From the boat, we were treated to some amazing mountain vistas, bathed in the nearly eternal twilight, sliding beneath a setting moon. I'll only post a few of these, as I could easily get carried away.





We kept passing these amazing glacial melt waterfalls. I stitched together this poorly framed composite image of one.

Try to gauge the scale of that waterfall. Those tiny little trees are all actually quite large. A person standing next to that fall would be an invisible speck in this photo. And these falls were every couple of miles. After this, I was convinced it couldn't get any more amazing or beautiful. Then we awoke the next morning in Glacier Bay...
