I'm coming to you live from the middle of nowheresville, also known as Chillicothe, Missouri. It is midnight, local time. Our Magellan unit has taken us on a bizarre tour of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri thus far. Roughly 13 hours from now, we'll reach Mike's house in Colorado.
Backing up a bit, Bob reluctantly drew to a close yesterday morning. We had a final meal together at a local diner called "Beaches" near Sunset Beach. If any of you are ever in the area, I implore you to check this place out. They had the best NC style pork Barbecue I've ever had. Seriously. Everything else was fantastic, too. And it's such an unassuming little place, one of those hidden gems you only find out about by word of mouth. Well, we found it by accident, but now you've got the word of my mouth to go by.
We wound up finishing recording 12 songs. That's an album's worth, which is what we were going for. Friday we were happily distracted by old Booninite buddy Krysti Adams (now Wetherill), and Josh's Mom, sister, niece and nephew. The trip was all we remembered Bob trips being, a week of geeky paradise. We didn't mind the repeated thunderstorms one bit. We unanimously agreed that the yearly tradition should be/has been resumed, and we will begin planning next year soon. So we took 12 years off, so what? We are a group of friends that have come to realize that we're not going to find any more of "us" in our respective corners of the planet, and we're all the "us" we're going to get.
