If you were looking for my blog yesterday, like me, you probably couldn't find it. Company B that I'd never heard of (Tucows), which had purchased my original provider's business (NetIdentity) a couple of years ago, just apparently sold out to Company C I've never heard of (Hover). Imagine how alarmed I was to when I tried to login to my blog yesterday only to find a page of a company I'd never heard of attempting (and failing) to redirect me to somewhere else. I immediately tried to login through my provider (NetIdentity) portal, only to find that redirecting me to a Hover page. After some snooping around, I found a blog talking about "upgrading" NetIdentity to Hover, whatever that is. The blog assured us that we would experience no disconnects during the process. Obviously I was experiencing a disconnect, so I sent some desperate emails to the recommended channels, which returned a litany of canned responses about how long the upgrade would take (until midnight this morning).
This morning, upon checking and noticing that my blog was still MIA, I sent another email, pointing out that it was no longer Monday, and my blog was still gone. I was holding off the panic that the thought of losing all the articles I've written, not least of all my Peru travel blog, just vanishing forever conjured up. After several more hours, an email arrived letting me know my problems had been resolved, and apologizing for the inconvenience. They also let me know that my blog was now free for as long as I maintained my email service with them (this was pretty exciting until I realized that they'd almost doubled the yearly fee for the email service).
So, long story short; Blog vanished! Mark is sad. Blog reappears! Mark is relieved.
