Why is life so full of waiting? All our lives we wait. Waiting for the right time, the right person, the right situation, always convinced that it will arrive, that it's just around the corner. We even wait for signs. We wait for something cosmic to tell us that it's time to stop waiting. We wait because we're not ready. Are we ever ready? We wait because we're not sure. Are we ever sure? We wait and wait until we're so used to waiting that we forget what we're waiting for. And then we wait until we remember. And when we don't remember we wait for something else to come along that's worth waiting for, the we wait for it, too. How much of life is waiting? Waiting to sleep, waiting to wake up, waiting to eat, waiting to get off work, waiting for the weekend, waiting for the summer, wait 'til next year. We never experience the present, because we wile away our time waiting for what's next, what may never come. I can't wait until I'm 13, we say. I can't wait until I'm 16, I can't wait until 18, I can't wait until I'm 21, then I can't wait until...oh. Wait. Wait a minute. Where did it all go? Is this what I was waiting for? Why am I still waiting? I can't remember what I was waiting for. If I'd known long ago that I'd still be waiting, maybe I would have stopped waiting. Shouldn't there have been a sign? Someday the waiting will end, and then I'll be there.
That will be the day. I can't wait.
