A busy December, and a bug filled January have left this blog a lonely, quiet place for the past 2 months. Let's do some quick catching up.
Christmas was as has become typical in recent year. I flew in to Raleigh on Christmas Eve, my mom picked me up and it was Christmas before we got back to her house. Literally. We arrived just after midnight. Christmas was laid back. Dad came over and we had our traditional meals and gift exchanges. Then, we watched the Mythbusters marathon on Discovery for about 5 hours. While in NC, I got to have dinner with Allan and Reuben, I took a day trip to beautiful, icy-cold Boone with Jana, and spent New Year's with the Mitchell clan, as is tradition. I later returned to Boone for an overnight visit, featuring blizzard-like conditions and intense, single digit cold.
In January, I upgraded my PC to Windows 7. The immediate effect was the usual set of headaches that usually comes with a Windows upgrade. It took me a couple of weeks to get that all sorted out (and I still haven't, completely).
Among the other things I upgraded, I recently got a new digital recording interface that uses a USB connection, replacing my old PCI based one. Now that I've upgraded my system, I need to upgrade my recording software. I'm in the market for a new DAW, if anyone has any suggestions. I've looked into Sonar 8, Ableton Live 7, and others. I don't need anything super professional, since it will be mainly just for me. Now I just need to get myself a band...
Aside from all that, my Christmas/birthday present to myself this year was a new 40" HD TV and Blu-Ray player. I've been loving it. I've watched more TV in the month I've had the new TV than I do in a typical year. I'm sure that will eventually normalize. But I finally got the price range I was waiting for, so I decided to join the 21st century.
